With National Best Friends Day coming up on Sunday, June 8, what better topic for today than friendship. One of my favorite scenes in Fates Released is between best friends Evie and Wyatt. Every time I go back and read this scene; I can’t help but smile.
Check out an excerpt from the scene here! [ WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD]
Her friend reached his hand out for hers and she took it instantly. His large one dwarfing hers and squeezing it gently. Tears lined Evie’s eyes and she shot forward, wrapping her arms around his neck. Wyatt swayed slightly on impact, but hugged her hard in return.
“You’ll get through this, Vee. We all will.”
“I love you so much, you big headed jock,” Evie sniffled and wiped her nose on his shoulder.
“You’re disgusting,” he chuckled. “But I love you too, you wannabe dramatic theater nerd.”
Evie gave him one last squeeze before moving back to her spot near the coffee table.
“You really like her, huh?”
Wyatt’s pointed ears turned pink along with his cheeks at Evie’s question. The grin on her face turned feral as she lightly kicked her boot out against his thickly muscled thigh.
“Oh-em-gee, you totally do!”
He pushed her foot away from him, the red along his cheeks growing deeper as he cleared his throat and said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“I love this for you, honestly. Elora can really whip your ass into shape. You could use someone like her.”
The tips of Wyatt’s lips curled up in a shy smile.
“She likes you, too. She just hasn’t admitted it to herself yet.”
“Yeah, well. She’s been avoiding me like the plague, so.”
“Oh, I know what that’s like…”
Wyatt’s eyes narrowed on Evie and she quickly looked away from him.
“I wasn’t going to say anything, because I was trying to be a good friend, but I could literally smell his scent tangled with yours from down the hall.”
“Stop talking,” she commanded, embarrassment lacing her words. Wyatt threw his head back, the baritone of his laughter warming her insides, but she forced herself to keep a look of annoyance on her face as she crossed her arms over her chest.
“It’s not funny.”
“Au contraire, my creepy eyed little friend. It’s hilarious. And also, something I never needed to actually have ever invade my senses. Believe me, if I could choose not to smell the two of you, I would. Some things between friends are better left to the mysteries of the world.”
It was her turn to change to the color of an apple. “Everyone is going to know,” she said with absolute mortification.
I mean, come on! If this isn’t friendship goals, then I really don’t know what is.
